Commodore

On 10 December 2019, Holden announced that the Commodore nameplate would be discontinued, in what is, according to Holden’s interim Chairman and Managing Director Kristian Aquilina, “decisive action to ensure a sharp focus on the largest and most buoyant market segments”, focusing on their SUV and Ute range, which had accounted for over 76% of their lineup during 2019. This marks the end of the Commodore nameplates’ 41 years.

We have a few offerings of the HOLDEN VB COMMODORE on novelty number plates - the car is of course the iconic Holden VB produced by General Motors-Holden's in Australia from 1978 to 1980. It was the first iteration of the first generation of this Australian made model. The car was officially launched on 26 October 1978 with showrooms receiving the first examples on 13 November 1978. Production of the VB only lasted seventeen months, the shortest reign of any Commodore. The VB Commodore was effectively the successor of the Holden HZ, although most models in that series continued to be produced until the introduction of the face lifted VC Commodore on 30 March 1980. 95,906 units of the VB Commodore were manufactured during the car's lifespan, and during 1979 the VB became Australia's number one selling car. Also in 1979, the VB won Wheels Car of the Year award, with the car being praised in the media for its value for money and engineering sophistication. The VB was available in three specification levels: Commodore, Commodore SL, and Commodore SL/E.  The Commodore SL/E was the top of the line variant  available as a sedan only. A wagon being released in August 1979. See the range we offer below and select your preference from the menu. This popular plate is  flat, non-embossed but has a pressed out embossed border. These novelty number  plates are made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. They measure 37 x 13 cm, exactly the same as the traditional fully embossed type of plate and look just like our other Aussie made novelty number plates; even the mounting holes are in exactly the same positions, so they can easily be hung on display indoors or outdoors. Important note about images we provide for novelty signs and plates: Just as we sometimes see that “pricing is subject to change without notice”, so too are “designs subject to change without notice”. In 99.99% of cases, what you see on Dixie’s website or brochure is what you get. However, there are the odd times when designs have changed in some small way (eg: maybe a logo moves to a different location on the item, or the colour changes). Sometimes this information doesn’t always trickle down until the new designs are manufactured and shipped to Dixie. We hope this is helpful and understandable.

  • HOLDEN ZB – THE LAST COMMODORE

Our HOLDEN ZB - THE LAST COMMODORE features the very last Commodore plated models sold in Australia In 2013, Holden announced that the Commodore would end production in Australia and confirmed that the Commodore badge would be inherited by its replacement - now fully imported. This decision was made on the basis of a survey revealing that a majority of customers were in favour of retaining the long-standing Australian badge introduced in 1978. On 8 December 2016, the new Commodore was revealed online. The 2018 Commodore was to be offered with four or six-cylinder engine options, as well as front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive. This was a major departure from the V8 and rear wheel drive variants available on the previous generation Commodore. It is based on the second-generation Opel Insignia. There has been significant controversy regarding Holden's decision to retain the Commodore name for the 2018 model, despite it being dimensionally smaller than its predecessor, lacking a V8 engine option and switching from a RWD to a FWD drive train. Whilst the decision has been considered to be a safe choice in order to preserve sales, the retention of the Commodore name has been critiqued for Holden missing the opportunity to re brand its sedan range and push its offering into the more lucrative semi-premium end of the market.  As of April 2018, the ZB Commodore had the lowest resale value as a proportion of new price of any car on the Australian market ! Due to slow sales and Holden's interest in other vehicle segments, it was announced on 10 December 2019 that the ZB Commodore would be discontinued in 2020 This plate has no embossed characters but has a pressed out embossed border and is made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. They measure 37 x 13 cm, exactly the same as the traditional fully embossed type of plate and look just like our other Aussie made novelty number plates; even the mounting holes are in exactly the same positions, so they can easily be hung on display indoors or outdoors. For protection during delivery we use extra packing materials to ensure they arrive in tip-top condition If you would like plates made to your own design, we can easily do this for you. Virtually anything you want can be created with our modern digital equipment.  The key is good art, and we can do ANY GRAPHIC!    ANY DESIGN!    ANY COLOUR! Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) used the VF series as the basis of its performance Gen-F sedan, wagon and utility models, which were also exported to the United Kingdom rebadged as the Vauxhall VXR8 range. However, there are the odd times when designs have changed in some small way (eg: maybe a logo moves to a different location on the item, or the colour changes). Sometimes this information doesn’t always trickle down until the new designs are manufactured and shipped to Dixie. We hope this is helpful and understandable.

Our COMMODORE FIRST AND LAST is of course a commemorative plate in recognition of the Commodore brand. Sadly, the iconic Australian car manufacturer HOLDEN announced on 10 Dec 2019 that the Commodore will be pulled from Australian showrooms early in 2020 – three years after switching to an imported model following the end of local manufacturing in 2017. It will bring to an end 42 years of the Holden Commodore name, which lasted even longer than the iconic Holden Kingswood. Sadly the writing was on the wall for the Commodore a decade ago as buyers shifted to small cars, SUVs and utes – as family and fleet sedans became passe. It's a dramatic fall from grace for the former Aussie favourite that was the nation’s top-selling car for a record 15 years in a row, from 1996 to the end of 2011. (Some interesting data below) There are two versions of this plate as shown in the gallery and drop down menu. One with a plain background and the other with the Aussie flag background This plate has no embossed characters but has a pressed out embossed border and is made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. ANY DESIGN!    ANY COLOUR! Our HOLDEN VF COMMODORE SS is of course the car manufactured by Holden in Australia. It was an executive car produced by Holden between June 2013 and October 2017 and was the second and last significantly restyled iteration of the fourth (and final) generation of the Holden Commodore to be manufactured in Australia. Its range included the sedan and station wagon variants that sold under the luxury Holden Calais (VF) nameplate. Also available was the commercial utility variant that sold under the Holden Ute (VF) nameplate. From 2013 to 2017 an improved version of the Commodore SS V sedan was exported to the United States badged as the Chevrolet SS; an evolution of the badging practice used on the previous-generation Commodore that was sold in North America as the Pontiac G8 from 2008 to 2009, prior to the Pontiac brand being discontinued. Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) used the VF series as the basis of its performance Gen-F sedan, wagon and utility models, which were also exported to the United Kingdom rebadged as the Vauxhall VXR8 range. In December 2013, GM announced that it would discontinue all Australian production in 2017. This popular plate is  flat and non-embossed with a pressed out embossed border, made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. ANY DESIGN!    ANY COLOUR! It introduced greater model differentiation along with gains in crash safety. An intermediate Series II was launched in August 2001, featuring a revised suspension system among other changes. The Commodore S was offered as a sporty alternative to the Acclaim. Based on the entry-level Executive, features came in the form of a sports body kit, electric windows, 16-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension, air conditioning, cruise control, and a leather steering wheel. • HOLDEN COMMODORE TRIO – VH VK VL

    $25.10

HOLDEN COMMODORE TRIO - VH VK VL is of course the car manufactured since 1978 by Holden in Australia (and, formerly, in New Zealand). For the original model, Holden replaced the long-serving Kingswood and Premier large cars developed in Australia, based on a smaller European design by Opel, re-engineered for Australian conditions. Initially introduced as a single sedan body style, the range expanded in 1979 to include a station wagon. From 1984, Holden began branding the flagship Commodore model as Holden Calais, with the Commodore Berlina introduced in 1984. Long-wheelbase Statesman/Caprice derivatives and Commodore utility body variants followed in 1990. The third generation architecture spawned the most body styles, with a new Holden utility launched in 2000 (now officially as the Holden Ute), reborn Monaro coupé in 2001, four-door Holden Crewman utility and all-wheel drive (AWD) Holden Adventra crossover in 2003. Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) in 1987 began official modification of high performance variants of the Commodore and its derivatives, under its own nameplate. Rivalry came predominantly from the Ford Falcon—also locally built. First generation VB (1978–1980) VC (1980–1981) VH (1981–1984) VK (1984–1986) VL (1986–1988) Second generation VN (1988–1991) VP (1991–1993) VR (1993–1995) VS (1995–1997) Third generation VT (1997–2000) VX (2000–2002) VY (2002–2004) VZ (2004–2006) Fourth generation VE (2006–2013) VF (2013–present) This plate has no embossed characters but has a pressed out embossed border and is made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish.
