    $23.50$25.10

Our HOLDEN VH COMMODORE HDT SS x TWO is of course the car manufactured by Holden in Australia. The Holden Commodore is a car manufactured since 1978 by Holden in Australia and formerly in New Zealand. Production in Australia ceased on 20 October 2017. For the original model, Holden replaced the long-serving Kingswood and Premier large executive cars developed in Australia, with another rear wheel drive platform that was, however, based on a smaller European design by Opel, re-engineered for Australian conditions. Subsequent series became larger, culminating with the fourth generation Commodore, fully developed in Australia and based on the GM Zeta platform. September 1982 saw the release of the Commodore SS, a model that has been a Commodore mainstay ever since. The abbreviation SS stands for "Sports Sedan". Offered with Holden's 4.1 L V8 as standard, the factory SS was supplemented by three up-spec versions produced by Peter Brock's HDT Special Vehicles company. The HDT models were named "SS Group One", "SS Group Two" and "SS Group Three", with the lattermost also featuring the Holden 5.0-litre V8 in a higher state of tune). The SS sedans were initially exclusively Maranello Red in color, but were later also made available in Alabaster White. The Group Three-tuned V8 produces 184 kW (250 PS; 247 hp) at 4750 rpm. This popular plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. Please select your preference from the drop down menu. These novelty number  plates are made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. They measure 37 x 13 cm, exactly the same as the traditional fully embossed type of plate and look just like our other Aussie made novelty number plates; even the mounting holes are in exactly the same positions, so they can easily be hung on display indoors or outdoors. One great advantage the flat non-embossed version is that owing to the absence of embossed border, and being just under 1 mm thick, it’s quite flexible and will flex about 10 cm from the centre, so can be mounted on curved surfaces. Each embossed rim style plate is sealed in a clear plastic sleeve, and each flat non-embossed plate is shrink-sealed in plastic film, so both types are ready for retail display, plus we offer the option of fixing them to a cardboard display card, so they can then be hung and displayed on the same display racks that are used for the other Aussie size plates we sell. To see what the display card looks like please click here For protection during delivery we use extra packing materials to ensure they arrive in tip-top condition If you would like plates made to your own design, we can easily do this for you. Virtually anything you want can be created with our modern digital equipment.  The key is good art, and we can do ANY GRAPHIC!    ANY DESIGN!    ANY COLOUR! For more details on how to create a sign or plate to YOUR design PLEASE CLICK HERE Important note about images we provide : Just as we sometimes see that “pricing is subject to change without notice”, so too are “designs subject to change without notice”. In 99.99% of cases, what you see on Dixie’s website or brochure is what you get. However, there are the odd times when designs have changed in some small way (eg: maybe a logo moves to a different location on the item, or the colour changes). Sometimes this information doesn’t always trickle down until the new designs are manufactured and shipped to Dixie. We hope this is helpful and understandable.

  • HOLDEN HZ PREMIER SEDAN

    $23.50$25.10

Our HOLDEN HZ PREMIER SEDAN is of course the iconic Holden. The Holden HZ was an automobile produced by General Motors-Holden's in Australia from October 1977 to 1980 in a variety of equipment levels and in several different body styles. It was also assembled in New Zealand. The Holden HZ received minor updates to the exterior over the HX series, and saw the introduction of what Holden termed "Radial Tuned Suspension" (RTS) across all models. RTS made significant changes to the suspension of the car, greatly improving the handling finesse, while at the same time not compromising ride quality. Modern Motor magazine described the HZ as "a great handler spoiled by the car" in a comparison against the BMW 528i, contrasted as "a great car spoiled by the handling". In this series, the base specification Belmont was deleted and the new Kingswood SL became the base luxury level for sedans and wagons, with a lower specification Kingswood sedan and wagon only offered as a delete option on the Kingswood SL. During the course of the HZ series, equipment levels were upgraded in 1978 effectively to match improvements in the opposition Ford Falcon range, but the life of the full W size Holden looked set to end following Holden's release of the VB Commodore in November 1978. After 1980, W sized Holden passenger cars were cancelled—replaced by the downsized Commodore. The Kingswood luxury level lived on until 1985 on the WB Holden utility but the end of HZ saw the end of the Holden Premier alongside both the GTS and Sandman which were both deleted prior to the end of the HZ series. This popular plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. • HOLDEN HQ KINGSWOOD WAGON 6CYL

    $23.50$25.10

The HOLDEN HQ KINGSWOOD WAGON 6CYL This image is of a 1973 Holden HQ Kingswood Station Wagon displayed at the Echuca Holden Museum. Its livery is in Balmoral Green with white top and Chestnut trim and the car has featured in Survivor Car Australia magazine. This particular HQ was a special factory optioned vehicle with  202 six cylinder, 4 speed, bucket seats, sports console, air chief radio, GTS instrument dash, mud flaps and outback pack. It is believed that this is the only one of its specification. More broadly the HQ series of 1971 was a completely new design, introducing larger capacity 173-cubic-inch (2.84 L) and 202-cubic-inch (3.3 L) six-cylinder engines, with the continued availability of 253-cubic-inch (4.1 L), 308-cubic-inch (5.0 L) Holden and 350-cubic-inch (5.7 L) Chev V8 engines. HQ was the most radically engineered Holden since the introduction of the original 48-215 model of 23 years prior. It featured a perimeter frame and semi-monocoque construction, and was the first full-size Holden to have coil spring rear suspension. As a cost-saving measure, HQ was only engineered for right-hand drive, hence it was not feasible to sell the car in left-hand drive markets. Thus Holden exports declined from 41,181 in 1973 to just 7,440 in 1975. Over the following years this led to a large decline in export vehicle revenue needed to fund the HQ-HZ series replacement. Despite this, HQ became Holden's most popular car, selling 485,650 units, a total yet to be surpassed in a Holden. It was however, sold over a longer timeframe than previous models. At the time, Holden's then managing director, an American named George Roberts, insisted that the HQ Holdens should "ride like a Cadillac" and that the front suspension be engineered to make the car prone to understeer for "safety reasons". Advertising of the car promoted its "jet-smooth ride" over rough roads. Notwithstanding persistent criticism from many motoring journalists, this policy persisted with the subsequent HJ and HX facelift models. It was arguable whether Australian buyers favoured this engineering philosophy and it was not until the 1977 HZ facelift that radical changes were made to the suspension to improve handling. This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. Please select your preference from the drop down menu. • HOLDEN HZ GTS

    $23.50$25.10

The HOLDEN HZ GTS or HZ GTS "MONARO" as some prefer to call it. Although the Monaro name had survived into 1977 as the HX Monaro GTS sedan, the coupé configuration was no longer in production and Holden decided to delete the Monaro name altogether from the new Holden HZ range. With the development of Radial Tuned Suspension, Holden transformed the bland characteristics of their full-size sedans and introduced a sporting variant called simply Holden GTS. and featured a four headlight grille, front and rear air dams, four-wheel disc brakes, sports wheels and a 4.2-litre V8 engine as standard equipment. The optional 5.0-litre V8 became standard in June 1978 With the November 1978 introduction of the new mid/full-size VB Commodore sedan and its availability with V8 engine power, the days of the GTS appeared numbered. Production of the GTS ceased in December 1978 Critics of late 1970s Monaros say that the four-door HZ was a betrayal of model’s heritage as Australia’s first true muscle car – little more, in effect, than a ‘tizzied’ up Premier. The factor that set HZ Monaros – and all HZ Holdens – apart from their predecessors was Radial Tuned Suspension. Holden’s HQ had introduced in 1971 the brand’s first all-coil suspension, with vastly improved ride quality coming at the price of mid-bend wallow and almost incurable understeer. Yet the fix was a simple mix of revised suspension geometry, a larger anti-roll bar and shock absorbers that transformed the HZ GTS into one of the better handling cars of its era.  Missing, however, was any "on-car" reference to Monaro, and yet Holden’s promotional literature still referred to the car by that name, those that actually appeared on showroom floors were identified only by GTS badges front, side and rear. Power from the locally manufactured V8s had declined markedly since 1974 when rudimentary emission control measures were first introduced. By 1977 the 5.0-litre engine’s official power output had dwindled to 161kW – down 10 per cent on the HQ’s 179kW. The 4.2-litre suffered proportionally less with a six per cent drop to 130kW. A four-speed M21 transmission was standard, with the durable Turbo-Hydramatic a popular alternative. The HZ GTS enjoyed an unspectacular lifespan and disappeared without fanfare during the early months of 1979. Actual production figures are unknown but HZ Monaros are among the rarer performance Holdens. This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. Please select your preference from the drop down menu. The HOLDEN LJ TORANAS x THREE novelty plate features 3 great Torana models: A Gold ‘GTR - 2 door’; a Yellow ‘6 S - 4 door’ and a Green ‘GTR XU-1 - 2 door’ The Holden Torana - a mid-sized car manufactured by Holden from 1967 to 1980. The name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning "to fly". The first Torana (HB series) was released in 1967 and was a four-cylinder compact vehicle with origins in the British Vauxhall Vivas of the mid-1960s. Whilst the 1969-73 (LC and LJ series) cars included more popular, longer-wheelbase six-cylinder versions, and with the 1974-77 (LH and LX series) cars adding eight-cylinder versions to the mix, a range of four-cylinder versions continued for the entire production life of the Torana (with later versions being marketed as the Holden Sunbird from November 1976). Changing tack in Australian motor sport, Holden released the LC Torana GTR XU-1 in 1970, with performance-enhanced drive train and handling. From this time through to the release of the Holden Commodore, the Torana remained Holden's most successful sports performance vehicle, with many victories garnered in rallying and circuit racing. The introduction of the VB Commodore in 1978 was preceded by the arrival of the updated UC Torana/Sunbird twins, but with no sports versions or V8 engine options. The Torana was subsequently discontinued in 1979, followed by the four-cylinder Sunbird in 1980. Our HOLDEN HD UTE is of course the iconic Holden. The Holden HD was an automobile produced by General Motors-Holden's in Australia from 1965 to 1966. The Holden HD sedans and station wagons were released in February 1965 with coupe utility and panel van body styles following in July of that year. The HD range replaced the Holden EH series which had been in production since 1963. The HD had a completely new body, which was wider and longer than that of the EH and offered significant increases in passenger space, load space and equipment levels. Body styling exhibited strong similarities to Vauxhall's FC Victor of the previous year, including that car's unusual concave rear window. Disc brakes were offered for the first time on a Holden model and the optional Hydramatic three–speed automatic transmission as used in the EH was replaced by a Powerglide two– speed unit. The HD was also the first Holden to be offered with a factory performance engine option, the "X2". The HD is often confused with the later HR but can be recognised by the front indicators being mounted under the bumper (the HR had round indicators mounted in the grill) and the wrap around tail lights at the back (the HR had narrow lights that extended up the end of the rear fins but not around the edge) This popular plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. Our HOLDEN EJ WAGON is of course the iconic Holden. The Holden EJ was a motor vehicle which was produced by General Motors-Holden's in Australia from 1962 to 1963. Introduced in July 1962, the EJ replaced the Holden EK series. The styling of the EJ was a radical departure from that of the EK with a lower roofline, a flatter boot and an absence of fins. Improvements were made to the brakes, front suspension and the Hydra-matic automatic transmission. A new luxury model, the Holden Premier, made its debut in the EJ series and featured leather interior, bucket seats, metallic paint, a heater/demister with centre console and arm rests on all four doors. It was fitted with Hydra-matic 3-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment, this being optional on other EJ series models. On introduction, the EJ range consisted of four-door sedans in three trim levels and five-door station wagons in two trim levels. A two-door coupe utility and a two-door panel van were added to the range in January 1963. The seven models were marketed as follows: Holden Standard Sedan / Holden Special Sedan / Holden Premier Sedan / Holden Standard Station Sedan / Holden Special Station Sedan / Holden Utility / Holden Panel Van There are just a handful of the pressed embossed Aussie size novelty number plate left, as this type of plate is phasing out. This is a standard size 37cm x 13cm aluminium plate and extremely high quality, durable and long lasting and we are proud to say that it is Australian manufactured by the same company that’s been producing and selling quality number plates for years. The sign can be hung inside or outside and each is pre-drilled so ready to hang. ANY DESIGN!    ANY COLOUR! This HR HOLDEN frame is specifically designed to fit around a standard size Australian number plate measuring 37.2 x 13.2cm, as used in all states. Please note that these days there are many sizes and shapes of number plate so it’s best to measure and ensure our frame will fit your plate. Sadly, the iconic Australian car manufacturer HOLDEN ceased vehicle and engine production in Australia on 20 October 2017. The last car that rolled off the production line in Holden’s Elizabeth factory in Adelaide’s northern suburbs was a red Holden Commodore, which is expected to be a collector’s item. That historic occasion marked the end of almost a century of automotive manufacturing for Australia, and 69 years for Holden. It was the end of the era for the Australian car manufacturing industry The frames are injection moulded plastic (ABS UV resistant), and the characters are applied as durable high quality vinyl. The vinyl stickers are printed on professional sign-making printers and precision cut on a plotter with a very small blade. They are weatherproof and have an expected lifespan of 5-7 years For protection during delivery we use extra packing materials to ensure they arrive in tip-top condition If you would like novelty frames made with your own choice of wording and colours we can easily do this for you within a few days. • Holden VN Commodore SS

Holden VN Commodore SS is of course part of the range of cars manufactured by Holden in Australia The SS Group A SV was a race homologation special based on the VN Commodore SS, which was built at Elizabeth, South Australia but extensively modified at Clayton, Victoria by Holden Special Vehicles (HSV). It was powered by a 215 kW (288 hp) 4.9 L HEC 5000i V8 engine, which was mated to a six-speed ZF manual. The SS Group A SV existed primarily as a homologation special, created specifically so a racing optimised version of the Commodore could be utilised for Group A touring car motor racing. In fact, the regulations set down by the international governing body FISA at the time required a minimum of 500 road-going versions. HSV produced only 302 units in total. This shortened production run did not affect the SS Group A SV's homolgation thanks to the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) giving Holden special dispensation, in the hope of bolstering thinning grids in the 1991 Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC). • Holden VN Commodore Group A

    $23.50$25.10

Holden VN Commodore Group A is of course part of the range of cars manufactured since 1978 by Holden in Australia (and, formerly, in New Zealand). For the original model, Holden replaced the long-serving Kingswood and Premier large cars developed in Australia, based on a smaller European design by Opel, re-engineered for Australian conditions. Initially introduced as a single sedan body style, the range expanded in 1979 to include a station wagon. From 1984, Holden began branding the flagship Commodore model as Holden Calais, with the Commodore Berlina introduced in 1984. Long-wheelbase Statesman/Caprice derivatives and Commodore utility body variants followed in 1990. The third generation architecture spawned the most body styles, with a new Holden utility launched in 2000 (now officially as the Holden Ute), reborn Monaro coupé in 2001, four-door Holden Crewman utility and all-wheel drive (AWD) Holden Adventra crossover in 2003. Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) in 1987 began official modification of high performance variants of the Commodore and its derivatives, under its own nameplate. Rivalry came predominantly from the Ford Falcon—also locally built. Wikipedia tells us: Group A regulations governed many touring car series between the 1980s and 1990s including in Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Japan, Italy, Germany and the European Touring Car Championship as well as the one-off 1987 World Touring Car Championship as well as significant races like the Bathurst 1000, Spa 24 Hours and the RAC Tourist Trophy. The arrival of the Commodore SS Group A SV, coincided with the return of former Holden racing driver, Peter Brock, for the first time since their acrimonious split in 1987. Brock teamed with former three time Bathurst co-winner and HDT driver, Larry Perkins and his team for the first time since 1985 to run two cars under Brock's Mobil sponsorship. The team formed a two-pronged attack by Holden, which also comprised Holden Racing Team led by British driver Win Percy. Engine outputs of this race car produced approximately 388 kW (528 PS; 520 hp), enabling it to reach 300 km/h (186 mph) with suitable gearing. It was also equipped with a specially homologated Holinger six-speed transmission, and their homologated racing weight was 1,250 kg (2,760 lb), down from the VL SV's 1,325 kg (2,921 lb). The SS Group A SV — as was the rest of the field that included Ford Sierra RS500 and the BMW M3 Evolution teams — was outclassed in the 1991 ATCC by the Gibson Motor Sport built Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R' of reigning champion Jim Richards and his teammate, Mark Skaife. Major complaints by Holden drivers included that the VN SS Group A SV lacked downforce compared to the VL series SV. Reportedly, this was a consequence of Holden demanding that the car be more eye pleasing to its predecessor, which was given various nicknames including the "plastic pig". While the car had a better aerodynamic drag and was significantly faster in a straight line than the VL (at Bathurst that year, Brock recorded 278 km/h (173 mph) in the Tooheys Top 10 runoff, and aided by a tow from the Sierra of Dick Johnson was recorded at 282 km/h (175 mph) in the race compared to around 270 km/h (168 mph) for the VL the year before), it was slower through the corners due to the lack of downforce. This meant that while lap times at most of the shorter ATCC tracks stayed almost the same as with the VL, the VN's were actually slower at Bathurst by around two seconds, though in fairness the VL series had 3 years development compared to less than 1 year for the VN. Brock gave the VN its only win in Group A racing when he won the opening heat of the first round of the 1992 Australian Touring Car Championship at Amaroo Park in Sydney, though both he and HRT were again uncompetitive during the season to the point that the leading Holden runner became Larry Perkins running a privately entered VL model. In September 1992 the VN was replaced as Holden's front line touring car for Sandown and Bathurst by its VP series successor. Brock's team was the only top team to run the VN Group A in the endurance races as the team's second car driven by Andrew Miedecke and Troy Dunston. The VN continued to be used by various privateers in 1993 and 1994 and last raced in the 1994 Australian Touring Car Championship by long time Holden running Sydney-based privateer, Terry Finnigan.
