Our HOLDEN FIRST AND LASTB is of course a commemorative plate in recognition of Holden car manufacturing in Australia.B Sadly, the iconic Australian car manufacturer HOLDEN ceased vehicle and engine production in Australia on 20 October 2017.

Holden began manufacturing cars in Port Melbourne in 1948 but the Elizabeth facility didnbt open until 1958, initially building car bodies before becoming a vehicle assembly line in 1965.

Holden factories at other sites in NSW, Queensland and Victoria followed before they too were shut.B In the end, Holden will have built a total of 7.6 million cars b including more than 2.3 million Commodores, not including exports b versus Ford Australiabs tally of 5.9 million vehicles and Toyota Australiabs total of 3.4 million.

The 48-215 was the first model from General Motors in Australia to bear the Holden name. In mainstream parlance, the official name of “Holden 48-215” was eschewed in favour of the shortened “Holden” designation. Following the replacement of the first Holden, the 48-215 gained the unofficial nickname of Holden FX

TheB 7,687,675th vehicle to be produced by the company and the last car that rolled off the production line in Holdenbs Elizabeth factory in Adelaidebs northern suburbs was aB Redline Holden Commodore SS-V, which is expected to be a collectorbs item. That historic occasion marked the end of almost a century of automotive manufacturing for Australia, and 69 years for Holden. It was the end of the era for the Australian car manufacturing industry

This plate has no embossed characters but has a pressed out embossed borderB and is made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. They measure 37 x 13 cm, exactly the same as the traditional fully embossed type of plate and look just like our other Aussie made novelty number plates; even the mounting holes are in exactly the same positions, so they can easily be hung on display indoors or outdoors. For protection during delivery we use extra packing materials to ensure they arrive in tip-top condition
