We started selling customised novelty number plates in the 1990’s and over the years have made thousands. The range of sizes, plate colours and character colours has grown and grown and nowadays is immense – when last we counted there were over 550 combinations. Sadly we haven’t yet found a website app that can handle that number of variations, so this post is all about our BEST SELLER – the good old favourite Aussie Standard Sized number plate, which has mounting holes pre-drilled so ready to hang.

There are only 45 variations published here as from our main Dixie Souvenirs website this gets also listed in our Ebay store Dikse Plates and Signs and there we are limited to a maximum of 50 variations.B B So lets tell you how to order your STANDARD SIZE NUMBER PLATE – PERSONALISED CUSTOM MADE, and before we continue please note that we are unable to replicate genuine number plates under any circumstances. Please read the details of PLATE and CHARACTER colours, then using the menus select the plate type, size, Character/Border Colour; the Plate Colour and the number of plates you want to buy.B FINALLY type in the embossed letters and numbers you want on your plate in the ‘Order Notes’ area.

Aussie Standard Size plate (13.4cm x 37.2cm) – available in 14 background colours but in this post we have listed the 6 most popular which are: White; Black; Dark Blue Yellow; Red and Silver.B If selecting one line of characters there is a choice of three different heights Large (L) =80mm; Medium (M) =60mm and Small (S) =50mm. If bLb is chosen there can be no more than 6 characters. If bMb chosen then no more than 7 characters. If bSb is chosen no more than 10 characters. PLEASE NOTE that spaces are counted as characters.

Small and Medium characters can be positioned vertically towards the top, centrally or towards the bottom of the plate. In the horizontal plane they can be to the left, centre or right of plate.B If selecting two lines of characters there is only one choice of character height which is Small (S) =50mm with no more than 11 characters per line including any spaces required

EMBOSSED CHARACTERSB There are 9 choices of character/border colours listed here which are White; Black; Blue; Yellow; Gold; Silver; Green; Red and Maroon. Characters are pressed out of the base plate then coloured to highlight them, and the chosen character colour also becomes the plate’s border colour, so itbs not possible to have characters in one colour and the border another colour.

When choosing the words or characters to go on your plate it’s important to PLEASE NOTE that spaces are counted as characters (so for instance MY TOY is 6 characters and not 5).

Characters are embossed onto the base plate in a choice of three different heights with Large (L) = 77mm, Medium (M) = 60mm, and Small (S) = 50mm.B The size of characters used will be by default the largest we can fit into the space determined by your choice and number of characters.B Mixed size characters are NOT POSSIBLE.

Our embossed characters can be numbers or letters in upper case and characters are available in 0 to 9 and A to Z. Additional Embossed characters are diamonds, dashes (-), pound or hash (#) at symbol (@), ampersand (&), apostrophe (‘) or full stops (.).

Small and Medium characters can be positioned vertically to top, centre or bottom and horizontally to left, centre or right of plate.

Diamonds or dashes are centrally positioned in the character line and a dot or full stop is positioned at bottom of character line.

To ensure there is no misunderstanding when ordering a custom plate that requires special characters like a space, diamond, dash or dot/fullstop, please use the following for clarity

1. For a space, either leave a space between letters, type the word (space) or just the closed brackets:

   For a diamond either type the word (diamond) or just type the star symbol: *

   For a dash, either type the word (dash) or the dash symbol: –

   For a pound or hash, either type the word (hash) or the hash symbol: #

   For an at symbol, either type the word (at) or the at symbol: @

   For an ampersand, either type the word (ampersand) or the ampersand symbol: &

   For an apostrophe, either type the word (apostrophe) or the apostrophe symbol: ‘

   For a dot/fullstop (bottom alignment only), either type the word (fullstop) or just the fullstop symbol: .

MANUFACTURING, DESPATCH AND DELIVERY TIMES Manufacture takes no more then 3 days, so despatch times are usually between 1 to 4 days. Delivery is normally done with Australia Post tracked Parcel Post so depending on which state of Australia you live in can be next day or two/three days.

MATERIALS AND DESIGN: The plates are made from high quality Aluminium and are the same size as official Australian number plates. They have rounded corners with embossed lettering and border. There are pre-drilled mounting holes

NOT FOR ROAD USE: Please Note they are for decoration only as officially the authorities say bAttachment of a Personalised Custom Made Plate to a vehicle could attract the interest of law enforcement officers should it affect the visibility of, or distract from, or imply it is, the actual registration plate of the vehicle.b

THE LAW By law a PERSONALISED CUSTOM MADE PLATE must avoid character combinations that are similar to state issued licenced or personalised registration plates and in general this includes avoiding the following Alpha Numeric combinations: AAA NN / AA NNN / AAA NNN / NNN AAA / NNN AA / AA NN AA / NAAANNN. For motorcycles NANAA or AA NAA.

We are unable to replicate genuine number plates under any circumstances. It is illegal to use our novelty plates on any vehicle as substitute genuine registration plates. Heavy penalties apply for misuse.

For bona fide car/motorcycle collectors and exhibitors we can get around this if our customer provides a signed statement of intentional use, for which we will supply a pro forma if it’s considered that the required character combination might be similar to a licenced registration plate.

PUNCTUATION If spaces are required between characters these count as a character. Punctuation commas are not available as embossed characters. Sometimes decals may be used but not available in all cases. Punctuation will be removed if not possible to produce

Please note that the various states/territories use different fonts, are changed often and can be different depending on the plate design. The font we use may not look the same as another plate you have seen somewhere else. For example, our font has number one’s as Custom Novelty Number Plate Number 1 Font With Serif (with serif by default) or as Custom Novelty Number Plate Number 1 Font Without Serif (without serif by special request only) and letter i’s look like Custom Novelty Number Plate Letter i font.
