Holden LJ Torana GTR XU1
50 years of Torana in 2017
$25.10
The Holden LJ Torana GTR XU1novelty plate is all about the The Holden Torana – a mid-sized car manufactured by Holden from 1967 to 1980. The name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning “to fly”. The first Torana (HB series) was released in 1967 and was a four-cylinder compact vehicle with origins in the British Vauxhall Vivas of the mid-1960s.
Whilst the 1969-73 (LC and LJ series) cars included more popular, longer-wheelbase six-cylinder versions, and with the 1974-77 (LH and LX series) cars adding eight-cylinder versions to the mix, a range of four-cylinder versions continued for the entire production life of the Torana (with later versions being marketed as the Holden Sunbird from November 1976).
Changing tack in Australian motor sport, Holden released the LC Torana GTR XU-1 in 1970, with performance-enhanced drive train and handling. From this time through to the release of the Holden Commodore, the Torana remained Holden’s most successful sports performance vehicle, with many victories garnered in rallying and circuit racing.
The introduction of the VB Commodore in 1978 was preceded by the arrival of the updated UC Torana/Sunbird twins, but with no sports versions or V8 engine options. The Torana was subsequently discontinued in 1979, followed by the four-cylinder Sunbird in 1980.
First generation: HB
Second generation : LC, LJ, TA

This popular plate is flat and has no embossed characters but has a pressed out embossed border, made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. They measure 37 x 13 cm, exactly the same as the traditional fully embossed type of plate and look just like our other Aussie made novelty number plates; even the mounting holes are in exactly the same positions, so they can easily be hung on display indoors or outdoors.
Important note about images we provide for novelty signs and plates: Just as we sometimes see that “pricing is subject to change without notice”, so too are “designs subject to change without notice”. In 99.99% of cases, what you see on Dixie’s website or brochure is what you get. However, there are the odd times when designs have changed in some small way (eg: maybe a logo moves to a different location on the item, or the colour changes). Sometimes this information doesn’t always trickle down until the new designs are manufactured and shipped to Dixie. We hope this is helpful and understandable

HOLDEN LC TORANA GTR XU1
$25.10The HOLDEN LC TORANA GTR XU1 novelty number plate features the Torana GTR XU-1 which was, at the time, arguably the best small performance car then available in Australia. In fact, it was one of the best small performance available anywhere in the world, although many examples had their fair share of irritating rattles throughout the body and trim. For sheer power and straight-line acceleration, there was nothing in its market segment to touch it - the 3048cc GM-H six-cylinder engine with triple Strombergs and tricky camshaft saw to that. It built a stellar racing reputation in both Series Production and Improved Production very nearly parallel to that of its bigger and more brutal opponent, the Falcon GT, showing itself to be slightly down on power but quite a bit better under brakes and through the corners. This plate has no embossed characters but has a pressed out embossed border and is made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. They measure 37 x 13 cm, exactly the same as the traditional fully embossed type of plate and look just like our other Aussie made novelty number plates; even the mounting holes are in exactly the same positions, so they can easily be hung on display indoors or outdoors. For protection during delivery we use extra packing materials to ensure they arrive in tip-top condition If you would like plates made to your own design, we can easily do this for you. Virtually anything you want can be created with our modern digital equipment. The key is good art, and we can do ANY GRAPHIC! ANY DESIGN! ANY COLOUR! TORANA MODELS
$25.00The Holden Torana was a mid-sized car manufactured by Holden in Australia from 1967 to 1980. Sadly, HOLDEN ceased vehicle and engine production in Australia on 20 October 2017. The last car that rolled off the production line in Holden’s Elizabeth factory in Adelaide’s northern suburbs was a red Holden Commodore, which is expected to be a collector’s item. That historic occasion marked the end of almost a century of automotive manufacturing for Australia, and 69 years for Holden. It was the end of the era for the Australian car manufacturing industry. Our TORANA MODELS series of plates is very comprehensive featuring several generations of Holden Toranas as shown in the drop down menu - choose Brabham Torana, LC GTR, LC GTR XU-1, LJ GTR, LJ GTR XU-1, LH G-Pak, LH SLR 3.3, LH SLR 4.2, LH SLR 5000, LX Sunbird, LX SLR 5000 A9X, LX SS A9X, A9X, HB Torana, LC Torana, LJ Torana, LH Torana, LX Torana, TA Torana or UC Torana We also have a comprehensive range of pictorial Holden model and a range of HOLDEN MODEL names on plates The TORANA MODELS novelty number plate is the pressed embossed standard Aussie size 37cm x 13cm aluminium plate and extremely high quality, durable and long lasting and we are proud to say that it is manufactured in Queensland, Australia. These novelty plates can be hung anywhere inside or outside as each is pre-drilled so ready to hang. PLEASE NOTE they are for decoration only as officially the authorities say “Attachment of a novelty number plate to a vehicle could attract the interest of law enforcement officers should it affect the visibility of, or distract from, or imply it is, the actual registration plate of the vehicle.” For protection during delivery we use extra packing materials to ensure they arrive in tip-top condition Important note about images we provide for novelty signs and plates: Just as we sometimes see that “pricing is subject to change without notice”, so too are “designs subject to change without notice”.
