The HOLDEN HJ MONARO GTS SEDANB novelty plate shows the car that was produced by Holden in Australia 1968 and 1977 and between 2001 and 2006. Three generations of the Monaro have been produced, with the last spawning an all wheel-drive variant, export models and various concept cars.
The HJ followed the HQ, and a heavy facelift and some model rationalisation was applied to the HJ Monaro, which was released in October 1974. Its front end bears a resemblance to the 1970b1972 American Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The 350 V8 engine option and the base Monaro coupC) were both discontinued. The Monaro GTS continued to be available as a coupC) or sedan with 253 in3 (4,150 cc) V8 power, or the optional 308 in3 (5,050 cc) V8 engine. The GTS sedan was now a model of its ownbin HQ the GTS sedan was an optioned Kingswood. The Monaro LS coupC) also continued within the range, but still with the 3.3-litre six-cylinder engine as its base power unit. The body paint-outs were discontinued in the HJ Monaro GTS range, but for the first time, the Monaro could be dressed up with optional front and rear spoilers. It seemed that Holden were no longer interested in promoting the Monaro GTS coupC) as a performance machine and this became all the more obvious with the HJ series coupC) having retained the HQ model’s rear body styling. The HJ Monaro LS coupC) is close to being the rarest regular production car ever made in Australia with only 337 units produced. This plate has no embossed characters but has a pressed out embossed borderB and is made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. They measure 37 x 13 cm, exactly the same as the traditional fully embossed type of plate and look just like our other Aussie made novelty number plates; even the mounting holes are in exactly the same positions, so they can easily be hung on display indoors or outdoors.
