HOLDEN THEMES

Times have changed, but for some hardcore fans there will only ever be Ford v Holden and in this category we cover HOLDENS from Sedans through to Utes and Wagons – we have many choices divided into 2 categories (1) With Images and (2) Without images

  • HOLDEN HG PREMIER SEDAN

Our HOLDEN HG PREMIER SEDAN is of course about Australia's iconic Holden. The Holden HG range was introduced on 26 July 1970, replacing the Holden HT series which had been in production since May 1969. Changes from the previous model included new grilles and body decorations as well as new safety features, colours and trim designs. All V8-engined models were now fitted with improved disc brakes and the suspension system of the Monaro GTS was modified for greater comfort. The mainstream HG series was offered in four-door sedan and five-door station wagon body styles in three trim levels. Belmont sedan / Belmont station wagon / Kingswood sedan / Kingswood station wagon / Premier sedan / Premier station wagon This popular plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. Please select your preference from the drop down menu. These novelty number  plates are made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. They measure 37 x 13 cm, exactly the same as the traditional fully embossed type of plate and look just like our other Aussie made novelty number plates; even the mounting holes are in exactly the same positions, so they can easily be hung on display indoors or outdoors. One great advantage the flat non-embossed version is that owing to the absence of embossed border, and being just under 1 mm thick, it’s quite flexible and will flex about 10 cm from the centre, so can be mounted on curved surfaces. Each embossed rim style plate is sealed in a clear plastic sleeve, and each flat non-embossed plate is shrink-sealed in plastic film, so both types are ready for retail display, plus we offer the option of fixing them to a cardboard display card, so they can then be hung and displayed on the same display racks that are used for the other Aussie size plates we sell. To see what the display card looks like please click here For protection during delivery we use extra packing materials to ensure they arrive in tip-top condition If you would like plates made to your own design, we can easily do this for you. Virtually anything you want can be created with our modern digital equipment.  The key is good art, and we can do ANY GRAPHIC!    ANY DESIGN!    ANY COLOUR! For more details on how to create a sign or plate to YOUR design PLEASE CLICK HERE Important note about images we provide : Just as we sometimes see that “pricing is subject to change without notice”, so too are “designs subject to change without notice”. In 99.99% of cases, what you see on Dixie’s website or brochure is what you get. However, there are the odd times when designs have changed in some small way (eg: maybe a logo moves to a different location on the item, or the colour changes). Sometimes this information doesn’t always trickle down until the new designs are manufactured and shipped to Dixie. We hope this is helpful and understandable.

  • HOLDEN FJ SPECIAL SEDAN

Our HOLDEN FJ SPECIAL SEDAN is of course about Australia's iconic Holden. The Holden FJ series is a range of motor vehicles which was produced in Australia by Holden from 1953 to 1957. The FJ was the second model of an "all Australian car" manufactured by Holden and was based upon the established 48-215 series, commonly referred to as the "FX". The sedan, in Standard, Business and Special trim levels, and a coupe utility were announced in October 1953 and were followed by a Panel van derivative in December of that year. A wagon prototype was built but the bodystyle was not put into production. In 1954, Holden's first exports began with sales of the FJ in New Zealand The FJ, of monocoque construction, broadly followed the silhouette of its predecessor, but featured a bolder horizontal styled front grille, along with comfort and decoration upgrades in a new sedan model named the 'Holden Special'. Originally specified as 60 bhp (45 kW) achieved at 3,800 rpm, the claimed maximum power output from the six-cylinder engine was increased to 65 bhp (48 kW) achieved at 4,000 rpm. In 1955 the car underwent a mild interior facelift for the Holden Special sedan, along with a variation in paint and trim options. The FJ series was progressively replaced by models from the Holden FE series from July 1956 to May 1957 with a total of 169,969 examples produced. In the 1950s almost half the cars on Australian roads were FJs, which gives you an idea of how popular it was. Smart styling and healthy demand for a locally-produced family car made a sales winner.  Today there are nearly 20 specific FX-FJ Holden Car Clubs of Australia with members committed to preserving these iconic Holdens. These clubs organise a national gathering for FX-FJ Holden enthusiasts every second year. This popular plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. Please select your preference from the drop down menu. • TWO HOLDEN HQ KINGSWOOD SEDANS

Our TWO HOLDEN HQ KINGSWOOD SEDANS is of course about Australia's iconic Holden. The Holden HQ was an automobile produced by General Motors-Holden's in Australia from 1971 to 1974. The HQ series of 1971 was a completely new design, introducing larger capacity 173-cubic-inch (2.84 L) and 202-cubic-inch (3.3 L) six-cylinder engines, with the continued availability of 253-cubic-inch (4.1 L), 308-cubic-inch (5.0 L) Holden and 350-cubic-inch (5.7 L) Chev V8 engines. HQ was the most radically engineered Holden since the introduction of the original 48-215 model of 23 years prior. It featured a perimeter frame and semi-monocoque (unibody) construction, and was the first full-size Holden to have coil spring rear suspension. As a cost-saving measure, the HQ was only engineered for right-hand drive, hence it was not feasible to sell the car in left-hand drive markets. Thus Holden exports declined from 41,181 in 1973 to just 7,440 in 1975. Despite this, the HQ became Holden's most popular car, selling 485,650 units. With almost half a million sold the HQ is still the most popular Holden ever produced and along the way spawned such classics as the Sandman panel van. This popular plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. Please select your preference from the drop down menu. • HOLDEN HJ MONARO GTS SEDAN

The HOLDEN HJ MONARO GTS SEDAN novelty plate shows the car that was produced by Holden in Australia 1968 and 1977 and between 2001 and 2006. Three generations of the Monaro have been produced, with the last spawning an all wheel-drive variant, export models and various concept cars. The HJ followed the HQ, and a heavy facelift and some model rationalisation was applied to the HJ Monaro, which was released in October 1974. Its front end bears a resemblance to the 1970–1972 American Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The 350 V8 engine option and the base Monaro coupé were both discontinued. The Monaro GTS continued to be available as a coupé or sedan with 253 in3 (4,150 cc) V8 power, or the optional 308 in3 (5,050 cc) V8 engine. The GTS sedan was now a model of its own—in HQ the GTS sedan was an optioned Kingswood. The Monaro LS coupé also continued within the range, but still with the 3.3-litre six-cylinder engine as its base power unit. The body paint-outs were discontinued in the HJ Monaro GTS range, but for the first time, the Monaro could be dressed up with optional front and rear spoilers. It seemed that Holden were no longer interested in promoting the Monaro GTS coupé as a performance machine and this became all the more obvious with the HJ series coupé having retained the HQ model's rear body styling. The HJ Monaro LS coupé is close to being the rarest regular production car ever made in Australia with only 337 units produced. The HJ Monaro GTS coupé was discontinued during 1975 due to falling demand,606 examples having been produced This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. Please select your preference from the drop down menu. • HOLDEN HZ KINGSWOOD PANEL VAN

The HOLDEN HZ KINGSWOOD PANEL VAN novelty plate shows the car that was produced by Holden in Australia from October 1977 - 1980 in a variety of equipment levels and in several different body styles. It was also assembled in New Zealand. Wikipedia tells us that the Holden HZ received minor updates to the exterior over the HX series, and saw the introduction of what Holden termed "Radial Tuned Suspension" (RTS) across all models. RTS made significant changes to the suspension of the car, greatly improving the handling finesse, while at the same time not compromising ride quality. Modern Motor magazine described the HZ as "a great handler spoiled by the car" in a comparison against the BMW 528i, contrasted as "a great car spoiled by the handling". In this series, the base specification Belmont was deleted and the new Kingswood SL became the base luxury level for sedans and wagons, with a lower specification Kingswood sedan and wagon only offered as a delete option on the Kingswood SL. During the course of the HZ series, equipment levels were upgraded in 1978 effectively to match improvements in the opposition Ford Falcon range, but the life of the full W size Holden looked set to end following Holden's release of the VB Commodore in November 1978. After 1980, W sized Holden passenger cars were cancelled—replaced by the downsized Commodore. The Kingswood luxury level lived on until 1985 on the WB Holden utility but the end of HZ saw the end of the Holden Premier alongside both the GTS and Sandman which were both deleted prior to the end of the HZ series. The Holden HZ was offered in four sedan and three station wagon models, marketed as follows: Holden Kingswood Sedan / Holden Kingswood Wagon / Holden Kingswood SL Sedan / Holden Kingswood SL Wagon / Holden Premier Sedan / Holden Premier Wagon / Holden GTS / It was also available in two coupe utility, two panel van and one cab chassis model, marketed as follows: Holden Ute / Holden Kingswood Ute / Holden Van / Holden Kingswood Van / Holden One Tonner (cab chassis) There were two special vehicle packages also available based upon commercial vehicles: Holden Sandman Ute and Holden Sandman Van This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice.

  • HOLDEN HT KINGSWOOD UTE

The HOLDEN HT KINGSWOOD UTE novelty plate shows the car that was produced by Holden in Australia between 1969 and 1970. HT Belmont, Kingswood and Premier models were introduced in May 1969, replacing their Holden HK series equivalents which had been in production since 1968. HT Brougham and Monaro models followed in June 1969. Noticeable changes from the HK series included new grilles, new tail lights, flatter rear flanks and a wider back window. Other changes included increased track width, revised suspension, a new instrument panel and synchromesh on all forward gears on manual gearbox models. The mainstream HT series was offered in four-door sedan and five-door station wagon body styles in three trim levels: Belmont sedan  /  Belmont wagon  / Kingswood sedan  / Kingswood wagon  / Premier sedan  / Premier wagon. The Brougham, which used a body with an extended boot, was available in one model only - the Brougham sedan The Monaro was offered in three two-door coupe models: Monaro coupe  / Monaro GTS coupe  /  Monaro GTS 350 coupe Commercial vehicle derivatives were available in two-door coupe utility and two-door panel van body styles in two trim levels: Belmont utility  / Belmont panel van  / Kingswood utility This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. • TORANA

The TORANA novelty plate is all about the the Holden Torana – a mid-sized car manufactured by Holden from 1967 to 1980. The name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning “to fly”. The first Torana (HB series) was released in 1967 and was a four-cylinder compact vehicle with origins in the British Vauxhall Vivas of the mid-1960s. Whilst the 1969-73 (LC and LJ series) cars included more popular, longer-wheelbase six-cylinder versions, and with the 1974-77 (LH and LX series) cars adding eight-cylinder versions to the mix, a range of four-cylinder versions continued for the entire production life of the Torana (with later versions being marketed as the Holden Sunbird from November 1976). Changing tack in Australian motor sport, Holden released the LC Torana GTR XU-1 in 1970, with performance-enhanced drive train and handling. From this time through to the release of the Holden Commodore, the Torana remained Holden’s most successful sports performance vehicle, with many victories garnered in rallying and circuit racing. The introduction of the VB Commodore in 1978 was preceded by the arrival of the updated UC Torana/Sunbird twins, but with no sports versions or V8 engine options. The Torana was subsequently discontinued in 1979, followed by the four-cylinder Sunbird in 1980. First generation: HB Second generation : LC, LJ, TA Third generation: LH, LX, LX Sunbird, A9X option, UC Torana concept cars: Torana GTR-X; Torana Mystere; Torana TT36 Extremely high quality Australian manufactured Standard Size Aluminium Number Plate (37cm x 13cm). Dixie’s plates are made in Queensland and are the same dimensions as those on a normal vehicle, with embossed characters and an embossed border.

ANY DESIGN!    ANY COLOUR! For more details on creating a plate to your design please click here Important note about images we provide : Just as we sometimes see that “pricing is subject to change without notice”, so too are “designs subject to change without notice”.

  • Holden WB One Tonner & Panel Van

The Holden Holden WB One Tonner & Panel Van novelty plate is all about The Holden WB series of automobiles produced by Holden in Australia from 1980 to 1984. It is a facelifted version of the Holden HZ series, which it replaced. Unlike the HZ and every other full size Holden series before it, the Holden WB was only offered in commercial vehicle body styles with no sedan or wagon passenger car variants. The long-wheelbase WB series models were marketed under the separate Statesman marque, absent of all Holden branding. The WB was released in April 1980, the range consisting of two coupe utility models, a panel van and a cab chassis truck. The Kingswood panel van, Sandman utility and Sandman panel van models were not carried over from the HZ commercial range. The WB range therefore consisted of: Holden (utility and van) Holden Kingswood (utility) Holden One Tonner (cab chassis) The Kingswood utility featured a black grate style grille and rectangular headlights, unlike the more basic models which shared a divided grille with circular headlights. In August 1980, the base models received an update which gave them the same frontal treatment as the Kingswood utility. Plans to produce sedan and wagon versions of the Holden WB reached an advanced stage but ultimately were not pursued. These variant would have supplemented the new Holden Commodore models in the family car market. This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. • Holden LC Torana

The HOLDEN LC TORANA novelty plate is all about the The Holden Torana - a mid-sized car manufactured by Holden from 1967 to 1980. The name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning "to fly". From this time through to the release of the Holden Commodore, the Torana remained Holden's most successful sports performance vehicle, with many victories garnered in rallying and circuit racing. The introduction of the VB Commodore in 1978 was preceded by the arrival of the updated UC Torana/Sunbird twins, but with no sports versions or V8 engine options. The Torana was subsequently discontinued in 1979, followed by the four-cylinder Sunbird in 1980. The rear of the sedan models featured a new bumper and wraparound triangular taillights, while all other body styles kept the previous HQ's rear styling. First generation: HB Second generation : LC, LJ, TA Third generation: LH, LX, LX Sunbird, A9X option, UC Torana concept cars: Torana GTR-X; Torana Mystere; Torana TT36 This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. ANY DESIGN!    ANY COLOUR! For more details on creating a plate to your design please click here Important note about images we provide : Just as we sometimes see that “pricing is subject to change without notice”, so too are “designs subject to change without notice”.
