OTHER AUTO

Our ‘other auto’ themed category is where everything else goes, so whilst FORD and HOLDEN have their own categories as does American Auto (largely GM & CHRYSLER), this category is the dumping ground for many other Auto brands and auto themed plates and signs

  • PONTIAC SERVICE

The PONTIAC SERVICE circular sign features Pontiac which was a brand of automobiles manufactured and sold by General Motors (GM); though production ended in 2010, Pontiac remains a registered and active trademark of GM. The Pontiac automobile brand was established in 1926 as a companion make for GM's more expensive line of Oakland automobiles. The Pontiac cars overtook its Oakland parent in popularity and supplanted the Oakland brand entirely by 1933. Pontiac became a companion make for Chevrolet. Pontiac was sold in the United States, Canada, and Mexico by GM. Pontiac was advertised as the performance division of General Motors for many years, while specializing in mainstream vehicles. Pontiac was relatively more popular in Canada, where for much of its history it was marketed as a low-priced vehicle. In late 2008 and early 2009, amid financial problems and restructuring efforts, GM announced it would discontinue manufacturing and marketing vehicles under the Pontiac brand by the end of 2010 and focus on four core brands in North America: Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC. The last Pontiac badged cars were built in December 2009, with one final vehicle built in January, 2010. Franchise agreements for Pontiac dealers expired October 31, 2010. This is a flat non-embossed sign measuring 12ins (30cm) diameter and is made from durable and long lasting high quality tin which can be hung inside or outside. Each is pre-drilled so ready to hang. • CHEVROLET BELAIR 50TH

The CHEVROLET BELAIR 50TH Tin sign is one of several we have in Chevy classics. The Chevrolet Bel Air was a full-size automobile that was produced by Chevrolet (a division of General Motors) from 1950–1981. This sign was made in celebration of the Belairs 50th anniversary in 2007, and depicts the 2nd generation (1955–1957) car which superceded 1st generation with all new styling and power. It was first called the "Hot One" in GM's advertising campaign. The 1956 Bel Air received a face-lift with a more conventional full-width grille, pleasing those customers who didn't favor the Ferrari-inspired '55 front end. Distinctive two-tone bodyside treatments and graceful front and rear wheel openings completed the "speedline" restyling. Novelty Tin signs are great for adding a touch of fun or nostalgia and there are heaps of them available with everything from Classic Muscle cars to Hollywood legends. Not only something with shed, games room or kitchen value these vintage signs have flair and decoration potential and a sort of artistic beauty that adds charisma and character to the place they are displayed. • SHELL MOTOR OIL CAN

The SHELL MOTOR OIL CAN Tin sign is one of several we have in motor oils. Wikipedia tells us Shell Oil Company is the United States-based subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell, a multinational "oil major" of Anglo-Dutch origins, which is amongst the largest oil companies in the world. Approximately 22,000 Shell employees are based in the U.S. The U.S. head office is in Houston, Texas. Shell Oil Company, including its consolidated companies and its share in equity companies, is one of America's largest oil and natural gas producers, natural gas marketers, gasoline marketers and petrochemical manufacturers. Shell is the market leader through approximately 25,000 Shell-branded gas stations in the U.S. which also serve as Shell's most visible public presence. Shell Oil Company is a 50/50 partner with the Saudi Arabian government-owned oil company Saudi Aramco in Motiva Enterprises, a refining and marketing joint venture which owns and operates three oil refineries on the Gulf Coast of the United States. The Shell Oil Company Warehouse, built in 1925 and located at 425 S. N. 16th Ave. Phoenix, Arizona. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Shell products include oils, fuels, and car services as well as exploration, production, and refining of petroleum products. The Shell Oil Refinery in Martinez, California, the first Shell refinery in the United States, supplies Shell and Texaco stations in the West and Midwest. Shell gasolines previously included the RU2000 and SU2000 lines (later there was a SU2000E) but they have been superseded by the V-Power line. In 1997, Shell and Texaco entered into two refining/marketing joint ventures. One combined their Midwestern and Western operations and was known as Equilon. The other, known as Motiva, combined the Eastern and Gulf Coast operations of Shell Oil and Star Enterprise, itself a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Texaco. After Texaco merged with Chevron in 2001, Shell purchased Texaco's shares in the joint ventures. In 2002, Shell began converting these Texaco stations to the Shell brand, a process that was to be completed by June 2004 and was called "the largest retail re-branding initiative in American business history.". In the year 2016, Shell Nederland Raffinaderij BV (Shell Pernis) said that it has started a new aromatics unit at the large Pernis refinery in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. BONUS! – Each SHELL MOTOR OIL CAN sign is supplied in a free clear plastic pocket ready for hanging on display in store. • HUMBER SUPER SNIPES

The HUMBER SUPER SNIPES novelty plate features the British Classic, the Humber Super Snipe  which was produced from 1938 to 1967 by British-based Humber Limited. The Rootes Group marketed the car for export, and the Super Snipe was assembled in Australia, commencing in 1953 with the Mark IV. From 1956 the car was available with automatic transmission, but the model was discontinued shortly afterwards. Super Snipes were also assembled in New Zealand for a number of years by Rootes Group and Chrysler importer Todd Motors which later became Mitsubishi New Zealand. Our information comes from Wikipedia and there were lots of Super Snipe models as follows: 1 1938 Pre-war Super Snipe 2 1946-50 Super Snipe Mark I to III 2.1 1936–52 Mk I 2.2 1948-50 Mk II 2.3 1950-52 Mk III 3 1952-57 Mk IV 4 New Super Snipe Series I to V 4.1 1958-59 Series I 4.2 1959-60 Series II 4.3 1960-62 Series III 4.4 1962-64 Series IV 4.5 1964-67 Series V and Va 4.6 1964-67 Humber Imperial The Rootes Group ceased production of the Series Va version in July 1967, by which time the group was under the control of the American Chrysler Corporation. The last of the big Humbers were assembled by Chrysler in Melbourne, Australia. This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. Please select your preference from the drop down menu. These novelty number  plates are made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. They measure 37 x 13 cm, exactly the same as the traditional fully embossed type of plate and look just like our other Aussie made novelty number plates; even the mounting holes are in exactly the same positions, so they can easily be hung on display indoors or outdoors. One great advantage the flat non-embossed version is that owing to the absence of embossed border, and being just under 1 mm thick, it’s quite flexible and will flex about 10 cm from the centre, so can be mounted on curved surfaces. Each embossed rim style plate is sealed in a clear plastic sleeve, and each flat non-embossed plate is shrink-sealed in plastic film, so both types are ready for retail display, plus we offer the option of fixing them to a cardboard display card, so they can then be hung and displayed on the same display racks that are used for the other Aussie size plates we sell. To see what the display card looks like please click here For protection during delivery we use extra packing materials to ensure they arrive in tip-top condition If you would like plates made to your own design, we can easily do this for you. Virtually anything you want can be created with our modern digital equipment.  The key is good art, and we can do ANY GRAPHIC!    ANY DESIGN!    ANY COLOUR! For more details on creating a plate to your design please click here Important note about images we provide : Just as we sometimes see that “pricing is subject to change without notice”, so too are “designs subject to change without notice”. In 99.99% of cases, what you see on Dixie’s website or brochure is what you get. However, there are the odd times when designs have changed in some small way (eg: maybe a logo moves to a different location on the item, or the colour changes). Sometimes this information doesn’t always trickle down until the new designs are manufactured and shipped to Dixie. We hope this is helpful and understandable.

  • HUMBER HAWKS

The HUMBER HAWKS novelty plate features the British Classic, the The Humber Hawk four-cylinder automobile manufactured from 1945 to 1967 by British-based Humber Limited. There were 4 generations and our thanks to Wikipedia for the following information 1st Humber Hawk Mk I & II - a re-badged Hillman 14 (1938-1940) was the first Humber car to be launched after World War II. Slightly longer because of the new boot lid superimposed on its fastback tail and narrower having shed its running boards it also managed to be 51kg lighter than the prewar car. The Mark II version of September 1947 was not even a facelift, the main difference being a column gear change with a control ring fitted to the gearbox making it impossible to crash the syncromesh gears. Top speed was around 65 mph (105 km/h). 2nd Humber Hawk Mark III to V The Mark III Hawk was a completely new car and was first shown at the London Motor Show in October 1948, but it still retained the earlier engine (side-valves, 1944 cc, 56 bhp at 3800 rpm) and transmission albeit with new rubber mountings. The new body was styled by the Loewy Studio and the separate headlights of the old model were gone, along with the separate front wings. The chassis was new, with coil-sprung independent front suspension replacing the previous transverse leaf spring. The body was now an integral component of the car's structure. The rear axle was also a new design with hypoid gearing. The body could be finished in a wide range of colours, both as two-tone and metallic. The metallic finishes would be offered on all the Hawks until the model's demise in late 1967/early 1968. In 1951 the Mark IV version arrived with a larger, 2267 cc engine incorporating, as before, an aluminium cylinder head and with a 58 instead of 56 bhp output. However at mid range speeds around 15 percent more power was generated. The Mark IV also used larger, 15-inch wheels. The steering was now more highly geared and was commended by commentators for its lightness when manoeuvering the car in a confined space despite 53% of the car's 2996 pounds (1358 kg) being carried by the front wheels. 3rd Humber Hawk Mark VI and VIA The main change with the Mk VI, which was introduced in June 1954, was the fitting of an overhead-valve cylinder head to the engine. The rear of the body was slightly changed, which made the car longer. In 1955 an estate version with fold-down tailgate appeared. The April 1956 Mk VIA was a fairly minor upgrade, with changes mainly to the interior. A de-luxe version was added to the range. A replacement, slightly more powerful and with an entirely new body was announced in May 1957. Mark VI registered 6 August 1954, and the motoring correspondent of The Times claimed that any previous Hawk owner would be "astonished" by the Mark VI's 20 per cent more powerful engine's ability to effortlessly swing the car along at 70 mph. Cold starting was very good. The engine was not always so willing to start when cold. The tyres were inclined to squeal on not very sharp corners taken at any more than a modest speed. The brake lining area is now 40 per cent more than on the Mark V. The driver's windscreen wiper is badly located. 4th Humber Hawk Series I to IVA The new Hawk announced in May 1957 had a completely new body with unitary construction which it would go on to share with the 1958 Humber Super Snipe. This was the biggest bodyshell for a saloon/estate car built in Great Britain at the time. The 2267 cc engine was carried over, though with modifications to the distributor mounting, and other details; and an automatic transmission, the Borg Warner D.G. model, was now available. The body was styled in Rootes' own studios and featured more glass than previous models, with wrap-around front windscreen, which gave it a considerable resemblance to a base model 1955 Chevrolet 4-door sedan. The missing rear quarter-lights were returned in series IV. The estate version featured a horizontally split tailgate—the lower half opening downwards (to provide an extra length of luggage-platform if necessary) and the upper half upwards. The fuel-filler cap was concealed behind the offside rear reflector. There were several revisions during the car's life, each resulting in a new Series number. In March 1967 Rootes announced that production of the Humber Hawk, along with that of the Super Snipe and Imperial had ceased. The announcement stated that the cars' place in their range would be filled by Chrysler Valiants imported from Australia, although there is no evidence of the UK car market having been flooded by Valiants following the announcement. After Hawk production ended, Rootes came to concentrate on sectors offering greater volume, no longer featuring as a UK provider of large family cars. It had, in particular, been unusual for UK manufactured cars of this size to feature a spacious station wagon / estate car version; and, following the demise of the Humber Hawk, the UK market for large estate cars quickly came to be dominated by the Volvo 145, introduced to the UK in March 1968, and its successors. • DATSUN 240Z x THREE

The DATSUN 240Z x THREE novelty plate features the Datsun 240Z which according to Wikipedia was also called the Nissan S30 which was the first generation of Z GT two-seat coupe, produced by Nissan Motors of Japan from 1969 to 1978. Prior to the 240Z Nissan Motors had built the extremely popular Fairlady Roadsters, and exported 44,152 of them almost exclusively to the U.S.A. It arrived in Australia in March of 1970 but from 1969-1973 production of the 240Z never kept up with demand, and only 2,400 were imported into Aussie. The sports cars of the 1970s were all sexy wings and aero wedges with jaw-dropping designs that stand the test of time today and the stunning 240Z's flowing lines borrowed just enough from the great European sports cars of the 1960s to make this car a classic itself. The look was so successful that the company kept updating and tweaking the design through the '70s and into the early 1980s. The Sports car International magazine rated the 1970s top sports cars as follows: 1. Ferrari Daytona 2. Datsun 240Z 3. Lamborghini Countach 4. Lamborghini Miura SV 5. Ferrari 308 6. Ferrari Dino 7. Mazda RX-7 8. Porsche Carrera RS 9. De Tomaso Pantera 10. • MG Y TYPES

The MG Y TYPES novelty plate features the MG Y-Type - a small saloon and limited production open four-seat tourer that was built by MG between 1947 and 1953. When production ceased, 8,336 "Y" Types had been produced, 6,131 of which were "YA"s, 904 were "YT" Tourers and 1,301 were "YB"s. Wikipedia tells us: In the years immediately before the Second World War, MG had sought to supplement its popular range of ‘Midget’ sports cars with three saloons of various sizes and engine capacities. These were the "S", "V" and "W" models. The MG factory at Abingdon on Thames had grown by developing what were in essence Morris based products and they were always to be closely associated with what was to become the Nuffield Organisation (Morris, Wolseley and later Riley). The "WA" had an engine displacement of 2,561 cc, the "SA" 2,288 cc and the smallest of the group, the "VA", had an engine of 1,548 cc. The next development to the range was to include one more saloon, of smaller engine capacity than the "VA", and for a component base the Cowley design office turned to Morris’s Ten-Four Series M saloon, which was introduced during 1938, and the smaller Eight Series E which was launched at the Earls Court Motor show the same year. The prototype "Y" Type was constructed in 1939 with an intended launch at the Earls Court Motor show, the following year. However, as a result of the hostilities the public had to wait a further eight years before production commenced. All prototypes originating from the MG Factory at Abingdon were allocated numbers prefixed by the letters EX; this practice continued until the mid-fifties. Although the prototype of the MG "Y" Type was primarily a Morris concept from Cowley, much of the ‘fleshing out’ was completed at Abingdon. As a result it was allocated the prototype number EX.166. When the car was launched the MG Sales Literature stated "A brilliant new Member of the famous MG breed. This new One and a Quarter Litre car perpetuates the outstanding characteristics of its successful predecessors – virile acceleration, remarkable ‘road manner,’ instant response to controls, and superb braking. A ‘lively’ car, the new One and a Quarter Litre provides higher standards of performance." The UK price of the car was £525.0.0 ex works plus purchase tax of £146.11.8d. • BEACH WOODY

Our BEACH WOODY is all about the legendary "woodie" - a car body style with rear bodywork constructed of wood framework with infill wood panels. Originally, wood framework augmented the car's structure, where later models featured applied wood and wood-like elements. Ultimately, manufacturers supplanted wood construction with a variety of materials and methods to recall wood construction — including infill metal panels, metal framework, or simulated wood-grain sheet vinyl, sometimes augmented with three-dimensional, simulated framework. In 2008, wood construction was evoked abstractly on the Ford Flex with a series of side and rear horizontal grooves. Novelty Tin signs are great for adding a touch of fun or nostalgia and there are heaps of them available with everything from Classic Muscle cars to Hollywood legends. • PACER

PACER refers to many things - In Aussie its the Valiant Pacer - released in mid 1969, a Chrysler named Valiant Pacer. A low-cost, high-power version of the bread-and-butter Valiant sedan, the Pacer featured a high-performance six-cylinder engine and three-speed manual gearbox with floor shifter. Despite a lack of exterior chrome, the VF Pacer stood out with its red and black grille, simulated-mag wheel hub caps, special body striping, 'Pacer 225' decals, and choice of "Wild Blue", "Wild Red", or "Wild Yellow" exterior colours. Although lacking the V8 of its rivals, the Pacer could reach almost 180 km/h (112 mph) and, at $2798, was $400 cheaper than the base GTS Monaro. The Pacer was powered by a special version of the trusty 225 Slant-6. With two-barrel carburettor, high-flow exhaust system, and 9.3:1 compression ratio, it produced 175 bhp (130 kW). Standard brakes were finned, servo-assisted drum brakes all round, although most buyers opted for the optional front discs. Modern Motor (May, 1969) took a VF Pacer sedan to 60 mph (97 km/h) in a respectable 10.5 seconds, the 1⁄4 mile (400 m) in 17.5 seconds and topped out at 111 mph (179 km/h). In 1969, Chrysler's market share reached 13.7%. 52,944 VF Valiants were built. In the USA the AMC Pacer is a 2-door compact car that was produced in the United States by the American Motors Corporation between 1975 and 1980. Design work began in 1971. The rounded shape and large glass area were unusual compared with the three-box designs of the era. The Pacer's width is equal to full-sized domestic vehicles at the time, and this unique design feature was promoted by AMC as "the first wide small car." The Pacer was the first modern mass-produced, U.S. automobile design using the cab forward concept. The Pacer's rounded and aerodynamic "jellybean" styling has made it an icon of the 1970s. The May 1976 issue of Car and Driver dubbed it "The Flying Fishbowl", and it was also described as "the seventies answer to George Jetson's mode of transportation" at a time when "Detroit was still rolling out boat-sized gas guzzlers." Time magazine wrote that a poll by Hagerty Insurance asked enthusiasts to name the worst car design of all time: The AMC Pacer was the pathetic winner. This novelty plate is a standard size 37cm x 13cm aluminium plate with embossed main characters. It is extremely high quality, durable and long lasting and we are proud to say that it is Australian manufactured by the same company that’s been producing and selling quality number plates for years.  The ZEPHYR sign can be hung inside or outside and each is pre-drilled so ready to hang.
