  • HOLDEN HJ MONARO GTS SEDAN

The HOLDEN HJ MONARO GTS SEDAN novelty plate shows the car that was produced by Holden in Australia 1968 and 1977 and between 2001 and 2006. Three generations of the Monaro have been produced, with the last spawning an all wheel-drive variant, export models and various concept cars. The HJ followed the HQ, and a heavy facelift and some model rationalisation was applied to the HJ Monaro, which was released in October 1974. Its front end bears a resemblance to the 1970–1972 American Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The 350 V8 engine option and the base Monaro coupé were both discontinued. The Monaro GTS continued to be available as a coupé or sedan with 253 in3 (4,150 cc) V8 power, or the optional 308 in3 (5,050 cc) V8 engine. The GTS sedan was now a model of its own—in HQ the GTS sedan was an optioned Kingswood. The Monaro LS coupé also continued within the range, but still with the 3.3-litre six-cylinder engine as its base power unit. The body paint-outs were discontinued in the HJ Monaro GTS range, but for the first time, the Monaro could be dressed up with optional front and rear spoilers. It seemed that Holden were no longer interested in promoting the Monaro GTS coupé as a performance machine and this became all the more obvious with the HJ series coupé having retained the HQ model's rear body styling. The HJ Monaro LS coupé is close to being the rarest regular production car ever made in Australia with only 337 units produced. The HJ Monaro GTS coupé was discontinued during 1975 due to falling demand,606 examples having been produced This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. Please select your preference from the drop down menu. These novelty number  plates are made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. They measure 37 x 13 cm, exactly the same as the traditional fully embossed type of plate and look just like our other Aussie made novelty number plates; even the mounting holes are in exactly the same positions, so they can easily be hung on display indoors or outdoors. One great advantage the flat non-embossed version is that owing to the absence of embossed border, and being just under 1 mm thick, it’s quite flexible and will flex about 10 cm from the centre, so can be mounted on curved surfaces. Each embossed rim style plate is sealed in a clear plastic sleeve, and each flat non-embossed plate is shrink-sealed in plastic film, so both types are ready for retail display, plus we offer the option of fixing them to a cardboard display card, so they can then be hung and displayed on the same display racks that are used for the other Aussie size plates we sell. To see what the display card looks like please click here For protection during delivery we use extra packing materials to ensure they arrive in tip-top condition If you would like plates made to your own design, we can easily do this for you. Virtually anything you want can be created with our modern digital equipment.  The key is good art, and we can do ANY GRAPHIC!    ANY DESIGN!    ANY COLOUR! In 99.99% of cases, what you see on Dixie’s website or brochure is what you get. However, there are the odd times when designs have changed in some small way (eg: maybe a logo moves to a different location on the item, or the colour changes). Sometimes this information doesn’t always trickle down until the new designs are manufactured and shipped to Dixie. We hope this is helpful and understandable.

  • HOLDEN HZ KINGSWOOD PANEL VAN

The HOLDEN HZ KINGSWOOD PANEL VAN novelty plate shows the car that was produced by Holden in Australia from October 1977 - 1980 in a variety of equipment levels and in several different body styles. It was also assembled in New Zealand. Wikipedia tells us that the Holden HZ received minor updates to the exterior over the HX series, and saw the introduction of what Holden termed "Radial Tuned Suspension" (RTS) across all models. RTS made significant changes to the suspension of the car, greatly improving the handling finesse, while at the same time not compromising ride quality. Modern Motor magazine described the HZ as "a great handler spoiled by the car" in a comparison against the BMW 528i, contrasted as "a great car spoiled by the handling". In this series, the base specification Belmont was deleted and the new Kingswood SL became the base luxury level for sedans and wagons, with a lower specification Kingswood sedan and wagon only offered as a delete option on the Kingswood SL. During the course of the HZ series, equipment levels were upgraded in 1978 effectively to match improvements in the opposition Ford Falcon range, but the life of the full W size Holden looked set to end following Holden's release of the VB Commodore in November 1978. After 1980, W sized Holden passenger cars were cancelled—replaced by the downsized Commodore. The Kingswood luxury level lived on until 1985 on the WB Holden utility but the end of HZ saw the end of the Holden Premier alongside both the GTS and Sandman which were both deleted prior to the end of the HZ series. The Holden HZ was offered in four sedan and three station wagon models, marketed as follows: Holden Kingswood Sedan / Holden Kingswood Wagon / Holden Kingswood SL Sedan / Holden Kingswood SL Wagon / Holden Premier Sedan / Holden Premier Wagon / Holden GTS / It was also available in two coupe utility, two panel van and one cab chassis model, marketed as follows: Holden Ute / Holden Kingswood Ute / Holden Van / Holden Kingswood Van / Holden One Tonner (cab chassis) There were two special vehicle packages also available based upon commercial vehicles: Holden Sandman Ute and Holden Sandman Van This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. • BEER AUSSIE MAN’S DRINK

The BEER AUSSIE MAN'S DRINK novelty plate. Australian men take their beer seriously and there is certainly a bit of confusion when ordering beers in different Aussie states. The most popular beer sizes in Australia include… A jug, which is 1140ml or 40 fluid ounces and is designed for sharing with your mates A pint is a 570ml (20 oz) glass but in South Australia, it is called an Imperial Pint because they call the 450ml glass a Pint A schooner is a 450ml (15 oz) glass, except in South Australia where it is called a Pint. Schooners are usually served in New South Wales but also exist in Victorian or Western Australian pubs too. A pot is served in a 285ml (10 oz) glass, but it has a variety of other names such as Half Pint, Middy, Handle or Ten. This is a popular option if you are after a quick drink. Here is a quick rundown by state of what beer sizes are called. • CAMARO SS

The CAMARO SS novelty plate shows the first generation Chevrolet Camaro that appeared in Chevrolet dealerships in September 1966, for the 1967 model year on a brand-new rear-wheel drive GM F-body platform and was available as a 2-door, 2+2 seat, hardtop (no "B" or center pillar) or convertible with a choice of six-cylinder and V8 power plants. The first-generation Camaro was built through the 1969 model year. The Camaro's standard drive train was either a 230 cu in (3.8 L) straight-6 engine rated at 140 hp (104 kW) or a 327 cu in (5.4 L) (307 cu in (5.0 L) later in 1969) V8 engine, with a standard three-speed manual transmission. There were 8 (in 1967), 10 (in 1968), and 12 (in 1969) different engines available in 1967-1969 Camaros. There were several optional transmissions. A four-speed manual was available with any engine. The two-speed "Powerglide" automatic transmission was available all three years. The three-speed "Turbo Hydra-Matic 350" automatic became available starting in 1969. The optional automatic for SS396 cars was the Turbo 400 three-speed automatic. There was a plethora of other options available all three years, including three main packages: The RS was an appearance package that included hidden headlights, revised taillights with back-up lights under the rear bumper, RS badging, and exterior bright trim. It was available on any model. The SS performance package consisted of a 350 or 396 cu in V8 engine and chassis upgrades for better handling and to deal with the additional power. The SS featured non-functional air inlets on the hood, special striping, and SS badging. The Z/28 performance package was designed (with further modifications) to compete in the SCCA Trans-Am series. It included a solid-lifter 302 V8, 4-speed transmission, power disc brakes, and two wide stripes down the hood and trunk lid. • MINI THREE MODELS

The MINI THREE MODELS novelty plate shows three models of the car that was part of the Mini range produced by the English based British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors from 1959 until 2000. The original is considered an icon of 1960s British popular culture. It's space-saving transverse engine front-wheel drive layout – allowing 80 percent of the area of the car's floorpan to be used for passengers and luggage – influenced a generation of car makers. In 1999 the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century, behind the Ford Model T, and ahead of the Citroën DS and Volkswagen Beetle. This distinctive two-door car was designed for BMC by Sir Alec Issigonis. It was manufactured at the Longbridge and Cowley plants in England, the Victoria Park/Zetland British Motor Corporation (Australia) factory in Sydney, Australia, and later also in Spain (Authi), Belgium, Chile, Italy (Innocenti), Malta, Portugal, South Africa, Uruguay, Venezuela and Yugoslavia. The Mini Mark I had three major UK updates – the Mark II, the Clubman and the Mark III. Within these was a series of variations, including an estate car, a pick-up truck, a van and the Mini Moke – a jeep-like buggy. The performance versions, the Mini Cooper and Cooper "S," were successful as both race and rally cars, winning the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965 and 1967. In 1966, the first-placed Mini was disqualified after the finish, under a controversial decision that the car's headlights were against the rules. BMW acquired the Rover Group (formerly British Leyland) in 1994, and sold the greater part of it in 2000, but retained the rights to build cars using the MINI name This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. ANY DESIGN!    ANY COLOUR! For more details on creating a plate to your design please click here Important note about images we provide : Just as we sometimes see that “pricing is subject to change without notice”, so too are “designs subject to change without notice”.

  • TORANA

The TORANA novelty plate is all about the the Holden Torana – a mid-sized car manufactured by Holden from 1967 to 1980. The name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning “to fly”. The first Torana (HB series) was released in 1967 and was a four-cylinder compact vehicle with origins in the British Vauxhall Vivas of the mid-1960s. Whilst the 1969-73 (LC and LJ series) cars included more popular, longer-wheelbase six-cylinder versions, and with the 1974-77 (LH and LX series) cars adding eight-cylinder versions to the mix, a range of four-cylinder versions continued for the entire production life of the Torana (with later versions being marketed as the Holden Sunbird from November 1976). Changing tack in Australian motor sport, Holden released the LC Torana GTR XU-1 in 1970, with performance-enhanced drive train and handling. From this time through to the release of the Holden Commodore, the Torana remained Holden’s most successful sports performance vehicle, with many victories garnered in rallying and circuit racing. The introduction of the VB Commodore in 1978 was preceded by the arrival of the updated UC Torana/Sunbird twins, but with no sports versions or V8 engine options. The Torana was subsequently discontinued in 1979, followed by the four-cylinder Sunbird in 1980. First generation: HB Second generation : LC, LJ, TA Third generation: LH, LX, LX Sunbird, A9X option, UC Torana concept cars: Torana GTR-X; Torana Mystere; Torana TT36 Extremely high quality Australian manufactured Standard Size Aluminium Number Plate (37cm x 13cm). Dixie’s plates are made in Queensland and are the same dimensions as those on a normal vehicle, with embossed characters and an embossed border.

  • Holden VK and VL Commodores – 30 yrs

Holden VK and VL Commodores - 30 yrs  is of course referring to the range of cars manufactured since 1978 by Holden in Australia (and, formerly, in New Zealand). For the original model, Holden replaced the long-serving Kingswood and Premier large cars developed in Australia, based on a smaller European design by Opel, re-engineered for Australian conditions. Initially introduced as a single sedan body style, the range expanded in 1979 to include a station wagon. From 1984, Holden began branding the flagship Commodore model as Holden Calais, with the Commodore Berlina introduced in 1984. Long-wheelbase Statesman/Caprice derivatives and Commodore utility body variants followed in 1990. The third generation architecture spawned the most body styles, with a new Holden utility launched in 2000 (now officially as the Holden Ute), reborn Monaro coupé in 2001, four-door Holden Crewman utility and all-wheel drive (AWD) Holden Adventra crossover in 2003. Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) in 1987 began official modification of high performance variants of the Commodore and its derivatives, under its own nameplate. Rivalry came predominantly from the Ford Falcon—also locally built. • PACER

PACER refers to many things - In Aussie its the Valiant Pacer - released in mid 1969, a Chrysler named Valiant Pacer. A low-cost, high-power version of the bread-and-butter Valiant sedan, the Pacer featured a high-performance six-cylinder engine and three-speed manual gearbox with floor shifter. Despite a lack of exterior chrome, the VF Pacer stood out with its red and black grille, simulated-mag wheel hub caps, special body striping, 'Pacer 225' decals, and choice of "Wild Blue", "Wild Red", or "Wild Yellow" exterior colours. Although lacking the V8 of its rivals, the Pacer could reach almost 180 km/h (112 mph) and, at $2798, was $400 cheaper than the base GTS Monaro. The Pacer was powered by a special version of the trusty 225 Slant-6. With two-barrel carburettor, high-flow exhaust system, and 9.3:1 compression ratio, it produced 175 bhp (130 kW). Standard brakes were finned, servo-assisted drum brakes all round, although most buyers opted for the optional front discs. Modern Motor (May, 1969) took a VF Pacer sedan to 60 mph (97 km/h) in a respectable 10.5 seconds, the 1⁄4 mile (400 m) in 17.5 seconds and topped out at 111 mph (179 km/h). In 1969, Chrysler's market share reached 13.7%. 52,944 VF Valiants were built. In the USA the AMC Pacer is a 2-door compact car that was produced in the United States by the American Motors Corporation between 1975 and 1980. Design work began in 1971. The rounded shape and large glass area were unusual compared with the three-box designs of the era. The Pacer's width is equal to full-sized domestic vehicles at the time, and this unique design feature was promoted by AMC as "the first wide small car." The Pacer was the first modern mass-produced, U.S. automobile design using the cab forward concept. The Pacer's rounded and aerodynamic "jellybean" styling has made it an icon of the 1970s. The May 1976 issue of Car and Driver dubbed it "The Flying Fishbowl", and it was also described as "the seventies answer to George Jetson's mode of transportation" at a time when "Detroit was still rolling out boat-sized gas guzzlers." Time magazine wrote that a poll by Hagerty Insurance asked enthusiasts to name the worst car design of all time: The AMC Pacer was the pathetic winner. From 1991, the range was bolstered by a luxury variant, the Mitsubishi Verada. It was the first Australian-made vehicle to be exported worldwide in large numbers (chiefly to North America as the Verada-based Diamante) and it also featured Australian-production firsts such as tiptronic transmissions (1997) and all-wheel drive drivetrain (2002). Magna spanned three generations before being replaced by the Mitsubishi's last Australian manufactured vehicle, the Mitsubishi 380, twenty years later in September 2005. Although some of Magna's engines were imported, the most common four-cylinder and V6 engines were also manufactured by in South Australia. Over the years, Magna grew in size and offered V6 power as well as all-wheel-drive, the latter to compete against the market's perception of better dynamics offered by its RWD rivals. The Magna was the first all-new Australian engineered and made Mitsubishi vehicle, and only one of two vehicles manufactured in Australia by MMAL up to the full closure of its South Australian-based facilities in 2008. The luxury-oriented Ford Fairmont model joined the range from 1965. Luxury long-wheelbase derivative versions called the Ford Fairlane and LTD arrived in 1967 and 1973, respectively. The Ford Falcon and its derivates have been Australian-made best-sellers, with over 3,000,000 sales in seven generations In May 2013, Ford Australia announced the end of local production, which comprises Falcon and its closely related Territory crossover SUV, by October 2016. This decision is attributable to Ford Motor Company's "One Ford" product development plan introduced in 2008 to rationalise its global range. Under this plan, Falcon's indirect replacements are the fourth-generation Mondeo from Europe and the sixth-generation Mustang from North America – the latter to retain Ford's Australian V8 heritage.
