  • TORANA

The TORANA novelty plate is all about the the Holden Torana – a mid-sized car manufactured by Holden from 1967 to 1980. The name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning “to fly”. The first Torana (HB series) was released in 1967 and was a four-cylinder compact vehicle with origins in the British Vauxhall Vivas of the mid-1960s. Whilst the 1969-73 (LC and LJ series) cars included more popular, longer-wheelbase six-cylinder versions, and with the 1974-77 (LH and LX series) cars adding eight-cylinder versions to the mix, a range of four-cylinder versions continued for the entire production life of the Torana (with later versions being marketed as the Holden Sunbird from November 1976). Changing tack in Australian motor sport, Holden released the LC Torana GTR XU-1 in 1970, with performance-enhanced drive train and handling. From this time through to the release of the Holden Commodore, the Torana remained Holden’s most successful sports performance vehicle, with many victories garnered in rallying and circuit racing. The introduction of the VB Commodore in 1978 was preceded by the arrival of the updated UC Torana/Sunbird twins, but with no sports versions or V8 engine options. The Torana was subsequently discontinued in 1979, followed by the four-cylinder Sunbird in 1980. First generation: HB Second generation : LC, LJ, TA Third generation: LH, LX, LX Sunbird, A9X option, UC Torana concept cars: Torana GTR-X; Torana Mystere; Torana TT36 Extremely high quality Australian manufactured Standard Size Aluminium Number Plate (37cm x 13cm). Dixie’s plates are made in Queensland and are the same dimensions as those on a normal vehicle, with embossed characters and an embossed border.

  • FORD XE FAIRMONT GHIA

The FORD XE FAIRMONT GHIA  novelty plate shows the car that was produced by Ford Australia from 1982 to 1984. It was the second iteration of the fourth generation of this Australian-made model and also included the Ford Fairmont (XE)—the luxury-oriented version of the Falcon. The XE range consisted of nine models marketed as follows: Falcon utility / Falcon van / Falcon GL ute / Falcon GL van / Falcon GL sedan / Falcon GL wagon / Fairmont sedan / Fairmont wagon & Fairmont Ghia sedan This plate comes standard as completely flat and non-embossed but for a little more cost we are able to give it a pressed out embossed border, so you have a choice. Please select your preference from the drop down menu. These novelty number  plates are made from high quality aluminium and the artwork applied by a dye sublimation process with a lovely gloss finish. They measure 37 x 13 cm, exactly the same as the traditional fully embossed type of plate and look just like our other Aussie made novelty number plates; even the mounting holes are in exactly the same positions, so they can easily be hung on display indoors or outdoors. One great advantage the flat non-embossed version is that owing to the absence of embossed border, and being just under 1 mm thick, it’s quite flexible and will flex about 10 cm from the centre, so can be mounted on curved surfaces. Each embossed rim style plate is sealed in a clear plastic sleeve, and each flat non-embossed plate is shrink-sealed in plastic film, so both types are ready for retail display, plus we offer the option of fixing them to a cardboard display card, so they can then be hung and displayed on the same display racks that are used for the other Aussie size plates we sell. To see what the display card looks like please click here For protection during delivery we use extra packing materials to ensure they arrive in tip-top condition If you would like plates made to your own design, we can easily do this for you. Virtually anything you want can be created with our modern digital equipment.  The key is good art, and we can do ANY GRAPHIC!    ANY DESIGN!    ANY COLOUR! • PACER

PACER refers to many things - In Aussie its the Valiant Pacer - released in mid 1969, a Chrysler named Valiant Pacer. A low-cost, high-power version of the bread-and-butter Valiant sedan, the Pacer featured a high-performance six-cylinder engine and three-speed manual gearbox with floor shifter. Despite a lack of exterior chrome, the VF Pacer stood out with its red and black grille, simulated-mag wheel hub caps, special body striping, 'Pacer 225' decals, and choice of "Wild Blue", "Wild Red", or "Wild Yellow" exterior colours. Although lacking the V8 of its rivals, the Pacer could reach almost 180 km/h (112 mph) and, at $2798, was $400 cheaper than the base GTS Monaro. The Pacer was powered by a special version of the trusty 225 Slant-6. With two-barrel carburettor, high-flow exhaust system, and 9.3:1 compression ratio, it produced 175 bhp (130 kW). Standard brakes were finned, servo-assisted drum brakes all round, although most buyers opted for the optional front discs. Modern Motor (May, 1969) took a VF Pacer sedan to 60 mph (97 km/h) in a respectable 10.5 seconds, the 1⁄4 mile (400 m) in 17.5 seconds and topped out at 111 mph (179 km/h). In 1969, Chrysler's market share reached 13.7%. 52,944 VF Valiants were built. In the USA the AMC Pacer is a 2-door compact car that was produced in the United States by the American Motors Corporation between 1975 and 1980. Design work began in 1971. The rounded shape and large glass area were unusual compared with the three-box designs of the era. The Pacer's width is equal to full-sized domestic vehicles at the time, and this unique design feature was promoted by AMC as "the first wide small car." The Pacer was the first modern mass-produced, U.S. automobile design using the cab forward concept. The Pacer's rounded and aerodynamic "jellybean" styling has made it an icon of the 1970s. The May 1976 issue of Car and Driver dubbed it "The Flying Fishbowl", and it was also described as "the seventies answer to George Jetson's mode of transportation" at a time when "Detroit was still rolling out boat-sized gas guzzlers." Time magazine wrote that a poll by Hagerty Insurance asked enthusiasts to name the worst car design of all time: The AMC Pacer was the pathetic winner. This novelty plate is a standard size 37cm x 13cm aluminium plate with embossed main characters. • MAGNA

The MAGNA is a mid-size car that was produced between 1985 and 2005 by Mitsubishi Motors Australia, based on Japanese platforms re-engineered for the Australian market. From 1991, the range was bolstered by a luxury variant, the Mitsubishi Verada. It was the first Australian-made vehicle to be exported worldwide in large numbers (chiefly to North America as the Verada-based Diamante) and it also featured Australian-production firsts such as tiptronic transmissions (1997) and all-wheel drive drivetrain (2002). Magna spanned three generations before being replaced by the Mitsubishi's last Australian manufactured vehicle, the Mitsubishi 380, twenty years later in September 2005. Although some of Magna's engines were imported, the most common four-cylinder and V6 engines were also manufactured by in South Australia. Over the years, Magna grew in size and offered V6 power as well as all-wheel-drive, the latter to compete against the market's perception of better dynamics offered by its RWD rivals.
